Mine.io at the 2025 Cluster Hub Workshop: Powering the Future of European Batteries

The Mine.io project continues its mission to bolster European raw material sovereignty. In late November 2025, Mine.io representatives actively participated in the 4th Annual Cluster Hub Workshop: “Production of raw materials for batteries from European resources.” The event brought together innovation leaders, industry representatives, and policymakers to chart the course for Europe’s battery sector.

Active Presence and Inter-Project Collaboration

While the Mine.io team did not take the main stage this time, our presence was felt through intensive activity. As a proud member of the “Materials for Batteries Hub,” we took an active part in thematic side-discussions and networking sessions. Participation in this workshop marks another milestone in strengthening inter-project collaboration. At Mine.io, we believe that co-creating an innovation ecosystem with partners from other Horizon Europe projects (such as RELiEF, LITHOS, and METALLICO) is the key to the success of European mining.

Mine.io: A Pillar of an Innovative Cluster

Mine.io’s membership in the “Materials for Batteries” cluster is a strategic alignment. Our project brings unique value to the hub by focusing on the digitalization and sustainable extraction of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs). Our integration with the cluster enables:

  • Exchange of best practices in sourcing raw materials for battery production.
  • Collective influence on EU raw material policy (supporting the Critical Raw Materials Act).
  • Building a resilient, European “mine-to-battery” value chain.

Technological Synergy: Where Mine.io Meets the Cluster Agenda

The workshop covered several topics that directly align with the Mine.io technological roadmap. Speakers emphasized the role of digital tools in reducing the environmental footprint of mining—the very core of our project.

During panel discussions and presentations (notably from projects like XTRACT and CRM-Geothermal), several areas were highlighted where Mine.io offers ready-to-use, innovative solutions:

  • AI and Big Data: Experts noted that the value of AI depends on the integration of diverse data sources. Mine.io achieves this through advanced Big Data analytics and AI algorithms that optimize mining processes.
  • Digital Twins and IoT: The concepts of “Digital Twins” discussed at the meeting are central to Mine.io, allowing for real-time simulation and optimization of mine operations via IoT sensor networks.
  • Advanced Mapping and Remote Sensing: Many hub projects prioritize precise resource estimation. Mine.io supports this via technologies such as Drone RGB/LiDAR, UAV-derived 3D imaging, GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), and Multi-Source Geophysical Data Fusion.
  • Transparency and Blockchain: Presentations like those from FREE4LIB touched upon tracking materials using Blockchain. This is an area where Mine.io is also developing expertise to ensure full traceability of extracted materials.

Conclusion

The 2025 Cluster Hub Workshop confirmed that the path chosen by Mine.io—driven by automation, digitalization, and advanced technologies (from DinSAR to SLAM and Hyperspectral imaging)—is perfectly aligned with the needs of the European battery industry. We return with fresh ideas and even stronger partnerships, ready for the next challenges in the raw materials sector transformation.
