XTRACT project
We are pleased to announce our collaboration with the XTRACT project, a Horizon Europe-funded initiative launched in December 2023. This three-year project brings together 14 partner organizations from nine European countries, aiming to revolutionize mining practices by developing a sustainable ecosystem for innovative resource recovery and complex ore extraction.
XTRACT seeks to reduce ore losses and mining waste through novel systems for controlling ore loss and dilution, thereby decreasing overall mine emissions and economic loss.
The project focuses on developing and validating innovative microinvasive technologies tailored for remote, hard-to-reach locations and small quantities where extraction is typically unprofitable. By introducing low-TRL green technologies such as phytoextraction and phytoremediation, particularly appropriate for mining waste piles and abandoned sites, XTRACT aligns with the European Commission’s ambition for self-sufficiency in critical raw materials essential for the green and digital transition.
