A methodological framework for evaluating the societal impacts of Mine.io mining innovations
Mining activities generate both positive and negative societal impacts, as the extracted raw materials feed into various value chains, contributing to employment and economic development. This project activity (task 5.3) investigates the social implications of mining, focusing on mine.io solutions, technologies and pilots.
Following a methodology aligned with UNEP guidelines, the methodology aims to assess both the beneficial and adverse social and socio-economic impacts associated with mine.io’s solutions and future mines. The approach includes identifying and categorizing key stakeholders to uncover potential social risks. Using a targeted questionnaire, the analysis helps capture stakeholder perspectives, by taking into account the experience gathered in different pilots, in the context-specific social risks. This enables a quick and preliminary technology-specific assessment and supports the identification of potential social hotspots at a macro level, in view of more detailed assessments.
