Mine.io Partners Shared Technological Insights at the 20th Jubilee IOS 2026 Conference
The 20th Jubilee International Conference on Integrated Optics: Sensors, Sensing Structures and Methods (IOS 2026) served as an important gathering for cutting-edge optical innovations. Held from 9th to 13th February 2026 in Szczyrk, Poland, the event brought together international experts to discuss advanced sensing methodologies. Among the participants, Prof. Dariusz Litwin and Kamil Radziak researchers from the Łukasiewicz Research Network – Tele and Radio Research Institute (Łukasiewicz – ITR) contributed to the technical tracks, sharing expertise directly linked to the digital transformation of modern mineral processing.
The conference, organized by the Photonics Society of Poland alongside committees of the Polish Academy of Sciences, provided a lively environment for cross-disciplinary networking. The multiple technical tracks and roundtable discussions actively engaged a vast international audience of well over 140 researchers, engineering experts, and academic students representing nearly ten countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, and Australia. The sessions also drew significant interest from prominent commercial technology providers and industrial safety systems manufacturers present at the venue, such as INTERLAB, Technolutions, Mono Spektra, and Atest Gaz.
Technical Contributions and System Insights
Representatives from the Polish team within the Mine.io project consortium utilized the conference panels to present different layers of their ongoing research in automated industrial monitoring:
- Metrological Advancements Lecture: Within the Optoelectronic Structures track , Prof. Dariusz Litwin and Kamil Radziak delivered a technical lecture titled “Variable Wavelength Interferometry for Measuring Phase and Step-Like Objects – Metrological Aspects”. This work focused on specialized algorithms for continuous phase registration in interferometry. Presenting such precise, environment-insensitive optical measurement methods underscores the team’s strong technological background in developing rugged sensors capable of withstanding the harsh conditions found in real world industrial operations.
- AI-Driven Flotation Research : Directly emerging from the core activities of the Mine.io project, a collaborative paper titled “Flotation Froth Pattern Recognition for the Ore Content Estimation” was showcased during the open poster session. This research highlighted the combined efforts of the entire Polish pilot team within the Mine.io project, co-authored by experts from Łukasiewicz – ITR, Łukasiewicz – AI, AGH University of Krakow, and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. The presentation focused on utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and automated pattern recognition algorithms to analyze flotation froth structures. By evaluating complex surface characteristics, the system aims to optimize ore content estimation, showcasing the project’s progress in deploying smart computing tools for mineral processing.
Synergy with the KGHM Industrial Pilot
The AI models and metrological frameworks discussed during the conference are closely tied to Mine.io’s practical deployments. The multi-camera vision system and the PIT software package, co-developed by the Polish partners, have been actively undergoing industrial pilot sessions at KGHM’s copper ore processing facilities. By gathering millions of multispectral froth images and synchronizing them with real-time process parameters, the integrated system utilizes deep neural networks to build precise predictive algorithms. This approach significantly advances automated process control, helping industrial facilities reduce environmental impacts while boosting raw material recovery efficiency.
